Part-time Cold Case Detective

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking interested and qualified candidates for the position described below. A complete, detailed job description for this position is available in the Alachua County Sheriff's Office Human Resources Bureau.


Highly responsible follow-up investigative work on homicide cold cases at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. Position involves reviewing, organizing, analyzing, and electronic documentation of cold case files. Position carries the responsibility for detection, apprehension and prosecution of criminal offenders. Specifically charged with Law Enforcement functions of an investigative nature, which fall within the varied responsibilities of the Bureau of Detectives.


Part-time. Office hours (varies/part-time position)


$16.03/hour Bi-weekly pay period.



To submit an application:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • Current FDLE/CJSTC Florida Law Enforcement certification
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement, with prior homicide investigative experience.
  • Must be of good moral character with no felony or misdemenor convictions involving moral character or false statement.
  • Current, valid Florida driver’s license


The most qualified applicants will be scheduled for an oral board interview with various representatives of the Sheriff's Office. Selected applicants must successfully complete the requirements of a conditional employment offer and a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a polygraph examination, physical examination, drug screening, psychological evaluation.
